TEL AVIV

Sergei Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes takes us to Tel Aviv. The work is the result of a meeting between the author and a small group dedicated to Jewish culture. Renowned German violinist Arabella Steinbacher, back together with our orchestra after two decades, performs the popular Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Felix Mendelssohn, a member of a famous Jewish family from Germany. The second part of the concert features a composition by Kurt Weill, a German (later American) composer who grew up in a religious Jewish family in Dessau, Saxony, where his father was a cantor. At 13 year of age he wrote his earliest preserved composition titled Mi Addir: Jewish Wedding Song. Our concert includes Weill’s Symphony No. 2, which is not so often represented in standard concert programs.
